Maintaining weight the Canadian way

I thought I'd post about one of the ways I've been maintaining my weight for Project Walrus 3.0 and at the same time ticking off one of life’s goals.

For no good reason, when I was a kid, I never learned how to ice skate and therefore never played hockey. In Canada that's not really a good thing and as I got older going through high school and university I always wished that I had played. Maybe it was because the hockey players always got the “puck bunnies” but it turned out to be one of my life’s regrets. A real sob story :).

Fast forwarding to October 2007, Project Walrus v2 just finished and I found myself in relatively good shape being some 40 pounds lighter and much more confident. I decided it was finally time to learn how to play hockey. However, I realized it would be much more fun joining a team if I knew someone. Especially someone who had never been on ice skates before… Fabio.

So I harassed Fabio into joining a beginner hockey league with me this past November. That actually took a bit of work as he kept saying he knew how to play hockey since he played field hockey in South Africa. Well, I have nothing against field hockey but it just so happens in Canada only girls play field hockey... so my harassment was pretty intense and he finally signed up.

Our beginner hockey season has just ended with a tournament over the weekend. We didn’t win the tournament but it was a great season, great exercise and tons of fun.

Another good site

To add to Patty's comment here's another similar website -

It's amazing when you look at the counts on what you actually consume :) Okay, a little scary too...

Follow-up to my last entry

Either no one checks the blog frequently or there are no suggestions for diet/exercise journals :)

Either way, I found a pretty cool site for this.

my-calorie-counter.com

You can track all types of nutrition facts, set goals, input exercise, blog, etc. Plus they have pretty looking graphs and it's free :)

I would recommend it!! Helps to stay on target. I didn't realize how many carbs and sugar I intake per day until I subscribed.

Anyhoo...let me know if you have any questions.

Weight Loss & Diet Journal

Does anyone know of a good journal online which you can input cals taken in and track your daily exercise, etc.? Currently, I am subscribed to fitday.com. It's okay although if you customize a certain food you ate, it doesn't allow you to input the sugar grams. That is what I am closely watching. Sugar is evil!

It's free so I shouldn't be complaining. But if anyone has a better site in mind please let me know!
